Buford highway is a gold mine for delicious, authentic restaurants. I usually only drive to Buford Highway to enjoy my favorite Colombian or Chinese dumplings, but this time I wanted to try an authentic sushi place. My friends told me about a tiny, hole in the wall restaurant called Hayakawa.
Hayakawa is most of my friend’s favorite sushi spot in Atlanta. Harrison Ford was spotted dining at this tiny little restaurant! We called ahead to make reservations because it stays rather busy. The man who took my reservation spoke perfect English and was very sweet. He told me to be sure when putting the address into my GPS to include the zip code 30340. Apparently there is a similar address in Norcross and many people end up over there. The restaurant is in a shopping plaza and is hidden away in a corner.
This tiny place was packed but thanks to our reservations we were seated right away. The staff was very friendly and informative. Art Hayakawa, owner/chef, was trained in Sapporo, Japan where high class Sushi chefs go to polish their skills. In 1991 he came to Atlanta to open his own, authentic sushi restaurant. His skills can clearly be seen in the quality of the sushi he makes.
My friends and I started out with Miso soup which was perfect for a cold night!
My two friends and I all ordered different sushi rolls. Although they were all delicious my favorite was the California roll. I can honestly say it was the best California roll I have ever eaten! The crab was amazingly fresh, giving it the best possible flavor. When I ate the first roll I just closed my eyes and savored every bite. Delicious!
If you enjoy eating delicious, fresh sushi- you must go to Hayakawa! I strongly suggest you make a reservation, especially if you are going on the weekend. Their phone number is 770-986-0010 and you can check out their full menu (and pictures) at atlantasushibar.com. If going with a group, make sure to bring cash because they do not allow you to split your checks.
Let me know if you head over to Hayakawa! Enjoy!
