Happy Tuesday friends! Today I wanted to share a quick recipe and a few new products I recently tried. Although I am not vegan, I always like to sample new products I see at the supermarket to recommend to my patients. These two products- Califa Dairy- Free Yogurt and Reddi Whip Coconut Whipping Cream caught my attention for this weeks product review post.
Califia Farms Unsweetened Plain Yogurt Drink
I was really excited to try this vegan yogurt because I love healthy additives for my smoothie bowls. This almond-coconut base yogurt features the Califia Culture Blend: 10 billion live, active probiotic CFUs powered by BB-12™. I wasn’t crazy about the taste and could definitely not drink it alone but it was easy to throw into a smoothie. It also comes in different flavors so that might help too!
What I loved: Great ingredients, packed with healthy bacteria and low calorie (100 calories per 8 oz serving).
What I didn’t Love: The taste-it was a little too “earthy” for me. Next time will try one of the flavored ones!
Reddi Whip Coconut Whipping Cream
I heard about this new whipped cream a few months ago but never got around to trying it until now. When I saw it at Publix this past weekend I had to buy it! They also have an Almond Whipping Cream option but I heard that it goes bad really fast so I went with the coconut. It’s absolutely delicious! It’s a little sweeter than the classic milk based whipped cream but it’s an excellent alternative. And at only 10 calories (the traditional is 15 calories for reference) you can enjoy it guilt-free! BUT here is the problem- it only worked ONE time. I tried to use it again the second day but all the gas was gone so the whip cream couldnt come out. Sadly I cannot recommend this product.
What I loved: Low calorie, creamy texture and non-dairy option to add to smoothies!
What I didn’t love: It only worked one time.
Ingredients:
For the smoothie bowl:
- 3/4 cup (175 mL) coconut milk
- 1 heaping cup (145 g) frozen mixed fruit
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup non-dairy yogurt
- 1 scoop blue spirulina {a vegan protein, read more about it here}
For the toppings:
- Dragon fruit
- Organic Coconut Granola
Directions:
- Add the coconut milk into a high-speed blender followed by the rest of the smoothie bowl ingredients. Blend on high until smooth.
- Pour into a bowl and add toppings as desired. Serve and enjoy!
*Tip: If you use frozen fruits, you won’t have to add any ice to your recipe!
