Have you ever been to a friend’s house and just felt right at home? I experienced that same feeling the moment I walked into True Food Kitchen in Buckhead, Atlanta. The staff at True Food Kitchen have made it their goal to make every guest feel welcomed and appreciated while serving them the best food possible. Not only is the service superb at True Food, but also the food is incredibly healthy and delicious.
I was lucky enough to sit down with Atlanta’s True Food Kitchen’s manager, David Alex and talk to him more about True Food Kitchen. The Buckhead location opened just last month and has quickly become a favorite for health conscious foodies in Atlanta. Right from the start, it was evident to me that David Alex is passionate about his job. He filled me in on his extensive training for the management position in San Diego. There he learned all about the restaurant’s ideology and how much they care for their food. Why does he love True Food and the environment he works in so much? “It’s quite simple actually, I believe in what True Food represents” says David Alex. “They believe in the importance of making healthy food taste good. One of True Food’s goals is to try and encourage people in the United States to adapt a healthier lifestyle.”
True Food restaurant bases their menu after Dr. Andrew Weils “Anti-Inflammatory Diet for Optimum Health”. By using all natural and fresh ingredients, True Food incorporates important nutrients like omega-3 and flavonoids into their meals. All of their protein is sourced from responsible and sustainable farms that uphold to the highest standards. Most vegetables come from local producers and are purchased organic when necessary. This means that produce is organic if they are part of the “dirty dozen”. For those unfamiliar with dirty dozen- it is a list put together by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) that includes the top 12 produce with the highest amount of pesticide residues.
So we know that the True Food Kitchen menu is healthy, but is it tasty? If you’re like me- you’ve tried some pretty bland, boring healthy food in your day. Sometimes sticking to a clean diet can be discouraging because it seems like everything tastes the same. I was so delighted to find that was not the case at True Food. David Alex prepared a few things from the menu for me to try and everything was dynamic and full of flavor. I started out with their famous “Kale Aid”, a juice made from kale, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon & ginger. It was refreshing and packed with flavor. Next, David Alex suggested with try their vegetable crudités. This beautiful arrangement of fresh vegetables was accompanied by black olive and tzatziki dipping sauce. This appetizer was good but the absolute best was the Edamame Dumplings. These dumplings blew my taste buds away! The dumplings are a vegetarian dish made with daikon radish and white truffle oil. I strongly recommend you try these on your next visit. After appetizers we moved on to my favorite part of any meal, dessert. Although everything on the menu sounded scrumptious, I went with David Alex’s favorite- the Chia Seed Pudding. From the first bite I could immediately see why it was his favorite- wow. Unbelievably delicious! This vegan, gluten free dessert is made from chia seeds, bananas, and coconut. Everything from the texture, to the presentation was amazing. Mark my words- I will always order this dessert when I go to True Food.
Personally, True Food Kitchen left me astonished. I never imagined that high quality, healthy food could be so flavorful and compelling. Aside from the food being delicious, the employees at Trued Food make your experience a great one. The staff go the extra mile to know their menu and ingredients backwards and forwards, answering any question to make sure you leave happy. Have dietary restrictions? True Food will do their best to accommodate any special diet. Almost all their dishes can be made gluten free and if they can’t, then they will recommend the next best thing.
A very special thanks to David Alex and True Food Kitchen for an amazing interview. Thank you to Fox Restaurant Concepts for allowing me to use the beautiful pictures.
I hope that I gave a little more insight on Atlanta’s newest healthy restaurant. Please let me know if you make it in and make sure you tell David Alex hi!
