I don’t know about you but after all the eating I did over the holidays my body is screaming for a cleanse! What better way to begin the new year than to start with a healthy food cleanse. The cleanse I chose was designed by a fellow nutritionist and her chiropractor. The full cleanse is actually a 21 day cleanse in which the first 11 days consist of eating ONLY fruits and vegetables. Since I have never done a food cleanse I spoke to her about doing a smaller, condensed version of it. She advised that if I wanted to feel results I needed to commit to at least 7 days. So I am doing it! My challenge to you all has always been to try and make each day better than the last so that’s what I am about to do. I will include the recipes that were given to me by my classmate and also some of my own.
For the next 7 days I will only be eating fruits and vegetables. A common question I get asked about the cleanse is what about eggs and nuts? If its not a vegetable or fruit, than its not allowed! Easy enough, right?
Today I went to my favorite Farmers Market and stocked up on veggies and fruits. I also got some coconut oil (you are allowed to use oils and dressings to cook with or for your salads) and garlic expressions vinaigrette. I spent a total of $60 at the Farmers Market. Not bad for fresh veggies and fruits!
Some advice I was given was plan out your whole weeks menu. It will make it easier to shop and will make the week go smoothly. Also, its important to prep all your lunches and snacks beforehand so you aren’t tempted to snack on forbidden foods.
I went ahead and made lunches for three days: Spinach, arugula, and soy bean sprout salads. I also packed sliced cucumbers, carrots, and grapes to snack on. For breakfast I packed a banana and tangerine.
I will be posting every night about the recipes I used and how the cleanse is going. I am ready for the challenge and excited for a week of healthy eating!
