When you think about living in the south, what comes to mind? Probably sweet tea, warm hospitality, people saying hey ya’ll and of course- BBQ. Atlanta is home to some of the BBQ restaurants in the south, so it’s no surprise that I found my personal favorite one, Smokebelly BBQ. Located in Buckhead, Smokebelly BBQ is home to a few nationally recognized dishes like the Porky Pig Mac’n Cheese Skillet and the award winning sandwiches. Award wining?! Yep! The Smokebelly Stack was recently awarded “Best Barbecue Sandwich in America” by Restaurant Hospitality Magazine. Pretty neat, right?
Funny story- I first heard about Smokebelly BBQ when I was watching a show called Food Porn on the FYI Channel. Yes- this is the kind of television I enjoy watching- guilty as charged! The dish they were featuring was the Porky Pig Mac-n-Cheese Skillet, which is creamy mac n cheese served with smoked pull pork, green onion and pork cracklin “crumbs” all in an iron skillet. After seeing that episode I knew it was my destiny to go try this dish and let me just tell you- it was life changing. It’s definitely enough for one person but if you’re nice and like to share I recommend you get it for the table! But no judging here if you just want to hog it all- ha ha- see what I did there?
About Smokebelly BBQ
From sweet tea to pickled fried okra, pulled pork to lighter fare, Smokebelly’s BBQ is a celebration of all things Southern. They are all about chef-crafted ’cue with soul-warming fixins’ and foot stompin’ music from Hank, Willie and Cash.
Smokebelly was created by the gents that brought you Tin Lizzy’s, The Big Ketch, Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails and the fella who founded the Fur Bus, A Social Mess, and The Pool Hall. Born and reared in the South, these friends built their smokehouse with true family recipes, inspired by down-home culture and music.
