Happy Monday pretty friends! Today I want to tell you about an amazing new brunch I had here in Atlanta at Portofino. Beginning yesterday, Portofino will host a brunch pop-up series every second Sunday of the month. Executive chef Matt Marcus has developed a fresh and creative menu selection, featuring Portofino’s unique interpretation of traditional brunch dishes such as duck benedict and shrimp and polenta, an Italian take on shrimp and grits. Other classics that can be enjoyed include a customized Bloody Mary made with your choice of artisanal garnishes, and a selection of Prosecco cocktails, such as Portofino’s signature peach bellini made with fresh white peach puree.
Andrew and I were fortunate enough to be some of the first to try the new brunch menu. We started out with the fun ‘build your own’ Bloody Mary option and a classic mimosa. We then ordered appetizers- house made apple muffins, warm goat cheese + white truffle oil + roasted mushrooms, and dill + brown sugar cured salmon. All three were amazing but the goat cheese blew my mind! If you love truffle as much as I do I highly recommend this appetizer.
Choosing an entree was very difficult because everything on the menu looked amazing. I ended up going with their Fettecuine Carbonara which came with egg yolk, english peas, pancetta and parmesan. It was incredible! The english peas gave the pasta such a fresh flavor. Andrew went with the Duck Benedict which came with a poached egg, duck prosciutto, heirloom tomato and duck hollandaise sauce. He loved how the duck was cut like a piece of ham- nice and tender!
Finally we finished our bunch with a cup of coffee and vanilla gelato. Our waiter, Seth, told us that the gelato is made in Marietta at an Italian gelato shop! A fun fact about Portofino is that all their produce is locally sourced! Such a wonderful concept to support local farmers and provide the farmer-to-table experience.
Overall we had a wonderful experience at Portofino. We were very impressed by taste, presentation, quality of food and price point. I strongly recommend joining Portofino at their next brunch Sunday, December 13.
