Happy Thursday my friends! Today’s post is dedicated to all you meat lovers out there- introducing Oak Steakhouse in Alpharetta. Oak Steakhouse features traditional Prime Certified Angus® Beef steak cuts along with contemporary small plates, salads, and entrees that celebrate Georgian ingredients fresh from neighboring farmers and purveyors alongside steakhouse classics in a modern and refined environment. Executive chef Eric Zizka’s menu celebrates Georgian ingredients from surrounding purveyors, farmers and fisherman. House favorites include housemade ricotta gnudi, a seasonal vegetable plate, daily fish selection, Grassroots Farms roasted half-chicken, grilled swordfish steak and a whole fried lobster.
Last week my husband and I had the pleasure of eating at Oak Steahouse to celebrate Prime Certified Angus Beef®. Chef Eric curated a 4-course menu {pictured above} designed to showcase the many ways you can prepare Angus Beef. There are many brands of beef, but only one Angus brand exceeds expectations. Since 1978, only one brand has promised and delivered the most flavorful, tender and juicy cuts. The Certified Angus Beef ® brand, as the original, has set the bar for high-quality beef and premium programs. The success of the brand has spurred a cloud of “Angus confusion,” as other programs tout similar Angus names. However, not all Angus beef is created equal. Each Angus program varies in its set of standards, not always delivering consumers the quality they expect. That’s where the Certified Angus Beef ® brand shines, consistently providing consumers the high quality beef they crave.

High-quality beef such as the Certified Angus Beef ® brand delivers superior flavor. But beyond that craveable taste and singular eating experience, consumers want nutrition, too. Serving for serving, there aren’t many foods that can match everything beef has to offer.
Beef can fit easily into any healthy and balanced meal plan. Select lean cuts such as those that have “loin” or “round” in the name – and, as with all foods, enjoy it in moderation.
Packed with nutrition
Beef is an excellent source of many essential nutrients, including:
• Zinc – needed for many of the body’s essential functions
• Iron – helps carry oxygen to cells and aids in brain development
• Protein – helps keep you energized and regulate body processes
In addition to the ZIP – that’s zinc, iron and protein – beef provides, it’s a great source of B-vitamins, including riboflavin and thiamin. These promote growth and maintain health.
Scientists are also learning about other important nutrients found in beef, such as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a fatty acid that may play a role in cancer prevention, help normalize blood glucose levels and contribute to heart health. Selenium, a trace mineral, is an antioxidant that helps prevent damage to body cells. Choline is an essential nutrient that plays a vital role in cognition and memory.
Did you know? The iron found in beef – known as heme iron – is more readily absorbed than the non-heme iron found in fruits, vegetables, grains, eggs or supplements. In fact, meals that include both meat and plant sources of iron have been shown to at least double the amount of iron absorbed by the body.
Just like most things in your diet, red meat should be consumed in moderation. I would recommend limiting your red meat intake to 1-2 servings per week. Make sure to eat some fresh vegetables on the side as well!
Andrew and I enjoyed every dish Chef Eric created but our favorite was the Certified Angus Beef ® prime filet of ribeye with Carolina gold rice “grits”, wild mushroom ragout and foie gras butter. The grits were incredibly creamy and complimented the ribeye. Chef Eric said since the meat was so fresh and naturally flavorful, it only needed a pinch of salt on the grill. Absolutely divine!
