Pretty Hair Week: Advice From The Pro's

Happy Friday my pretty friends! Its the final day of our very special hair week and we are ending it with quite the treat! I asked two of my favorite hair dressers to give us some advice on obtaining healthy health. Here is what each of them has to say-

Rachel from Rachel Christine and Dear Bride

I have known this beautiful woman for a very long time now- she actually went to grade school with my little sister! We reconnected through blogging, which I am so thankful for. She has done my hair a few times (Alys Beach shoot and Cottage Hill Magazine shoot) and she has always done an amazing job!! Rachel can do it all but is especially gifted in getting brides ready for their big day. If you are in need of hair or makeup while you’re in Florida, Rachel is your girl. So here is what she has to teach us:

How long have you been doing hair for? 5 years
Best advice in maintaining healthy hair? Spending the money on a good blow dryer is my #1 advice. Cheaper dryers don’t have enough air power, so the heat ends up seriously damaging your hair. More air power with that heat is a must!
Product(s) you can’t live without? My favorite product right now is by KMS California. It’s a dry wax spray. This product is so amazing, it offers hold and texture without the crunch or grease of other products. Perfect for styling lobs an any soft wavy looks.
A hot tool Rachel recommends buying: Solano Professional Super Lite Blow Dryer . She’s had it for over 3 years and it still works!

Linda from Linda Margarita

Aren’t all my friends so beautiful? Linda is actually my exact height too! Us tiny women must stick together! Not only is Linda adorable but she is also very talented. She actually did Cynthia from Darling Down South’s hair and makeup for her wedding a few weeks ago! Linda also did all of the bridesmaids hair as well. Talk about a woman who can do it all. I strongly recommend Linda for your bridal hair and makeup needs here in Atlanta. So here is what she has to share with us:

1. Years in profession: 7 years.

2. Best tips for maintaining healthy hair:

– Eat well & take your vitamins! Your hair is a literal manifestation of what’s internally going on within you. Eating healthier will drastically change hair growth. Sometimes, I fail in this area so I try to take Juice Plus vitamins, a multivitamin & a prenatal vitamin to help.

– Limit the amount of heat you put on your hair. If you can skip a blow dry do it! If you can repeat yesterday’s style do it!

Don’t go over the same spots multiple times with your irons this will definitely cause breakage in the long run.

We are in a beautiful time in culture where truly anything goes. So have fun with your hair, let it be natural every now and then!

3. Linda’s secret weapon: Moroccan Oil Argan Oil – I could talk forever about this product.

The benefits are amazing, some of them being stronger, shinier, and healthy hair. Just go buy some. It should run you around $40, but last you forever. Don’t settle for knock offs. Also, Moroccan Oil – Restorative Hydrating Masque for weakened, damaged hair, it reconstructs,fortifies and nourishes. If your hair is over processed, damaged, dry, or just needing a boost this is your product. You can do this about twice a week. Shampoo Hair, towel dry, apply masque and shower cap, let it sit about ten minutes, rinse and seal with conditioner. Moroccan oil makes awesome shampoo & conditioner too! Use a wide tooth comb or brush. Brushing your hair when it’s wet is not the best for your hair, if you must, use The Wet Brush to help detangle. Start from the ends and work your way to the roots.

Kevin Murphy – Fresh Hair Dry Shampoo: The holy grail dry shampoo, literally makes your hair feel clean, light, and it smells like heaven.

Bed Head – Masterpiece Hair Spray: The perfect everyday hairspray.

Bed Head – Hard Head Hair Spray: This hairspray is for those who love a really strong hold, or have a problem with their curls staying curled.

Bumble & Bumble – Surf Spray: My favorite salt spray for beachy waves & texture.

Moroccan Oil – Argan Oil: Tested and true the best Argan oil on the market.

Kevin Murphy – Night Rider: This pomade product is sooo versatile I use it on guys and girls and on just about every type of style. If you have fly aways this will paste those down, if you are wearing your hair curly tussle some through the curls to add body. If you are wearing your hair pin straight smooth it out with this! Style then spray!

Kevin Murphy – Full Again: This thickening cream is great is you have fine hair or if you just want to add a little more body to what you already have. Apply to damp hair and blow dry.
