Happy Monday friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today I want to share a few styling tips for my fellow petite pregnant friends and give you a bumpdate! It’s hard enough finding clothes when you’re petite and NOT pregnant so now it’s even more of a challenge. Something I’ve experienced is that petite maternity is a complete oxymoron. I’ve pretty much given up on maternity stores because their clothes is either huge or way over priced. But good news-I have found a few little tricks and pieces of advice to share.
Shop Smart
First, try to save your money by shopping at affordable retailers like Old Navy, Loft, Target and H&M. I went into Old Navy the other day and could not believe how affordable some pieces were! Like the dress I am wearing in the first photo was only $12! Since I normally don’t fit into Old Navy’s normal sizes, I plan on just buying a few pieces and using it as temporary maternity clothing.
Size Up
Some of you might already be doing this but this was new to me- buy one or two sizes up. I usually wear petite so now I’m buying a regular XS at Old Navy and Loft. This has helped a lot! Now this doesn’t work with pants because, well, we have a big belly to style now!
Invest in Maternity Pants
Like I mentioned before, tricks don’t really work when it comes to pants. The only “trick” I’ve used is using a tight tank top and wearing a long blouse to cover up my unbuttoned white denim pants. But the best advice I can give is invest in at least one or two pairs of pants you can wear with multiple tops. The two I purchased were a pair of Jessica Simpson Petite Dark Denim and J.Crew Maternity Pixie Pants. I also heard H&M has some great denim options. Other than that I wear leggings with everything.
Buy Blouses and Dresses
Since my little belly is getting bigger and bigger- I figured I’d need to buy very loose fitting blouses and dresses. If you buy a loose dress, pair it off with a cute belt so you don’t look bigger than you are. Also- this is a cute way of showing off your adorable baby bump! I found the best spring blouses (great fit, cute colors and even better prices) at Loft. They usually have 40%-50% off sales going on so you can get a few and not pay a fortune.
Baby Bumpdate
How far along: Today I am 28 weeks pregnant which means I am officially in my third trimester! My original due date was early May but baby boy is measuring further along so now its late April. I heard this is the most uncomfortable trimester because you just get bigger and bigger. But it’s also the most exciting because baby is only 12 weeks away from getting here!
How I’m Feeling: I feel amazing! I’ve gotten to the point where I’m obviously pregnant so people are now confident enough to ask me when I’m due. Before I noticed people would look at me, look at my belly, then look back at me but not say anything. I wanted to say- Yes I’m pregnant I didn’t just eat a lot of food! Ha! But I feel full of energy and loving every minute of being pregnant.
Symptoms: I am hungry ALL THE TIME. This has been something I’ve had to get used to because I eat, then 2-3 hours later I’m starving. I’m currently working on a blog post with healthy snacking because I’ve had to figure out how to fill my day with calorically dense foods. I’m also having a hard time falling asleep at night. Hopefully that won’t last much longer!
Cravings: I still love those sweets! Lately I’ve been making a lot of smoothies and loading them up with fruit, chia seeds, yogurt and almond butter. I also crave salads. I know I know- that’s such a dietitian thing to say but I honestly have never been a salad kinda girl. But lately they are what I prefer- which is a good thing! I honestly don’t crave cheeseburgers or a lot of meat in general. Now that’s weird!
Weight gain: So far I have gained 15 pounds which puts me right on track. I haven’t noticed it in any other places other than my belly but sometimes I notice I wake up looking swollen. Those are days I am holding onto water {natural pregnancy symptoms} so I try to walk a little extra to get everything flowing in my body.
Exercise: I’m not going to lie, this is something I have not been good about. I just purchased a Prenatal Yoga Video and mat so I can do a little yoga at home. I’ve also been walking a few miles every week now that the weather is a little warmer. I stay very active throughout the week but I’m trying to make it a point to work out a little more.
What I’ve Been Doing: In regards to baby, I’ve been reading Bringing Up Bébé {which my little sister so kindly gifted me} and trying to educate myself more on the third trimester. Drew and I also registered at Pottery Barn, Target and Restoration Hardware this past weekend so that was a lot of fun! I have two baby showers coming up and I’m super excited about those! I can’t wait to start nesting for my little angel.
