Happy Wednesday friends! Can you believe we are exactly twelve days away from Christmas? And then only 20 days from 2019? I’ve been so busy these past few weeks buying gifts for the holidays that the time has flown by! One gift I decided to get this year for a few family members is memberships to the High Museum of Art here in Atlanta.
Every member enjoys:
- FREE unlimited admission to their permanent collection and select special exhibitions
- FREE entrance to programs including Friday Jazz, First Friday, Toddler Thursday, and more
- Invitations to members-only previews and events
- 10% off in the Museum Shops and Café
- Subscription to HighLife magazine, events calendar, and enews
- Discounted parking in the Woodruff Arts Center parking garage (during Museum hours, usually $15)
- Special offers on gift membership purchases
- Discounts on select tickets to the Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
- $5 admission tickets for up to five guests per visit
Still not sold on getting a membership or gifting it? No worries- Today I am going to share five reasons why this membership makes the perfect gift for anyone on your list.
1. Extraordinary Installations
This past summer Robinson and I started spending some afternoons at the High Museum. We were fortunate enough to experience the Winnie the Pooh installation that they had up for a limited time. It was very special to share this with Robinson and teach him about one of my favorite childhood characters. Although the Winnie the Pooh installation is gone, the High is always showcasing special installations.
2. Hands on Galleries
In case you missed it, I did a full blog post on the new, hands on Greene Family Learning Gallery at the museum. Robinson (who is 19 months old) had so much fun exploring and touching everything in the gallery. This is a great indoor activity to do with the kids!
3. Famous Exhibitions
The High is proud to present the most comprehensive exhibition by Yayoi Kusama (Japanese, born 1929)—one of the twentieth century’s most influential artists—to tour North America in over twenty years. This exhibitions is so famous and popular that tickets are currently sold out. But if you had a membership, you would have received first dibs on early sales and lower ticket prices! Just another perk of being a member of the High Museum!
Although advance tickets for Infinity Mirrors have sold out, but there is still an opportunity to see this exhibition. Through February 17, there will be approximately 100 walk-up tickets available at the museum each day beginning one hour before the museum opens. Maximum two tickets per person. People start lining up hours before that, so if you want a good chance at tickets make sure to get there about 2 hours early!
4. Early Learners
When it comes to learning, the High Museum makes it fun. This is another reason a membership to the High Museum would be the perfect gift! The museum not only offers hands on galleries but they also offer learning opportunities for all ages. For example, the museum offers Toddler Thursdays! Designed for children ages fifteen months through three years with their caregivers, Toddler Thursdays engage children’s creativity and incorporate monthly themes with related artwork, art-making activities, stories, and tours. Explore, learn, and create every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All activities are free with Museum admission. Toddler Thursdays are sibling friendly, so bring the whole gang!
5. To Support the Arts
If you need one final reason to gift a membership to the High Museum here it is: to simply support the arts. Atlanta High Museum is one of the nation’s leading art museums in the Southeast. It houses more than 16,000 pieces comprised of American art, European art, African art, decorative art, folk art, photography and more contemporary works. By giving someone you love a season pass to the High Museum you are not only giving them a one of a kind gift but you are also supporting a local staple.
I hope you found this post helpful! You can buy them online by clicking here or you can give them a call customer Service Center at 404-733-4575 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.).
As someone who has a membership I can honestly tell you that it’s a wonderful thing to have. I look forward to everything new the museum has to offer and love taking out of town guest to the museum.
