When my maid-of-honor asked me where I wanted to have my bachelorette weekend I started doing some research on cities that are fun, not too far, and full of great food. Although awesome cities like New Orleans, Savannah, and Charleston came up, none had everything Nashville has to offer. Nashville has country music, Southern charm, a dynamic night life, and most importantly great food.
“At Husk, there are some rules about what can go on the plate. ‘If it doesn’t come from the South, it’s not coming through the door,’ says Brock. The resulting cuisine is not about rediscovering Southern cooking, but rather exploring the reality of Southern food. Seed-saving, heirloom husbandry, in-house pickling and charcuterie programs by the culinary team are the basis of Husk’s cuisine.”
After reading plenty of blogs and food critics my best friend and maid-of-honor both created a delightful list of places to eat on our trip. First stop, Husk located in Rutledge Hill near Downtown Nashville. I was especially excited to eat at Husk because James Beard award-winning Chef Sean Brock runs the menu.
The restaurant is set in a Southern style brick house. The restaurant has a speak-easy feel to it but with more Southern charm added. Our waitress informed us that although their menu changed daily, they were famous for their burger and shrimp and grits. I bet you can guess what I went with….
This delectable spoon burger was exactly what I wanted, simple and delicious. The burger was $11 and it comes with potato fries and butter pickles. It is housed between a toasted buttermilk and benne seed bun; inside lay two patties with onions first cooked then steamed. On top is American cheese and it’s lightly dabbed with Chef Brock’s special sauce. The precision by which this burger has been crafted is mind-blowing. For the fries you should ask for their housemade ketchup. Personally I was not crazy about the fries but some of my friends loved them.
After lunch we headed to our little home for the weekend. This beautiful house, situated in downtown Nashville was absolutely perfect! We found the house on the website Airbnb.com and only paid $392 for the whole weekend. Such a great deal!
“Saint Añejo is M Street’s premiere Mexican restaurant, featuring inspired Mexican cuisine, Latin mixology, and a premium tequila and mezcal menu of over 120 labels. The menu showcases creative tacos, house made guacamole, and regionally-influenced Chef specialties.”
Friday night the ladies and I got dressed up and headed to downtown to a delicious Mexican restaurant called Saint Añejo. We all ordered an array of premium tequila drinks that were unique to the restaurant. I went with their Cucumber-Habenero-Lime Margarita. This explosive margarita was a mixture of cool and spicy flavors. I’ve never had anything like it in my life!
For dinner I went with their Lone Star Burrito ($15). This giant burrito came with short rib, rice, beans, avocado, green chile sauce, and cotija (white cheese). It was so large that my sister and I decided to share it. It was exquisite!
Saturday morning was cold and rainy but we still woke up to visit the Nashville Farmers Market in Downtown. Since its still cold in Nashville, the Farmers Market did not have many vendors. Regardless, we were able to meet some fantastic farmers and vendors.
My personal favorite purchase from the market was my Garlic and Herbs Goat Cheese spread. This spread came from a local goat farm, Noble Springs Dairy, that sells great quality goat products. The generous vendor let us sample various goat cheese options. Although the Pimento Goat Cheese spread was amazing too, I went with the Garlic and Herbs cheese.
I also picked up some Honey Granola Bars and a large apple pie from the Schrock Family Bakery which is based in Wildersville, Tennessee.
While we were at the Farmers Market I bought a little treat of mini sugar doughnuts for breakfast. They were freshly made and were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Saturday for lunch we headed over to Broadway Street to get some authentic, good ole Tennessee BBQ. The BBQ hot spot on our list was the famous Jack’s BBQ restaurant. This hole in the wall restaurant located on the historic Broadway Street in Downtown Nashville was exactly what I imagined Tennessee BBQ would taste like. I can honestly say that it was the best BBQ I’ve ever had and my personal favorite place we ate on the trip.
Later on that night we returned to Broadway for some fun bachelorette activities. Sunday morning we were exhausted from staying out late celebrating so we decided to skip breakfast and head out for lunch. Last on our list, another famous spot, The Pharmacy.
“The Pharmacy Burger Parlor & Beer Garden believes in serving the very best products at the very best value. We use 100% Tennessee-raised beef for our legendary burgers and 100% pure cane sugar in our sodas.”
We picked this spot because we were wanting something greasy to eat after our night out on Broadway. The Pharmacy was rated #1 Burger Spot in Nashville last year so of course we had to make a stop. We waited about 45 minutes to be seated but once we were seated the service was quick. Not to mention we had the most fantastic waitress who was incredibly sweet and honest about the menu selection. I went with the classic Pharmacy burger while my friends tried the Farm Burger.
My burger had a lot of mustard on it but other than that it was good. The fries were delicious as well but next time I will go with the sweet potato fries.
Overall my trip to Nashville was fantastic. My beautiful bridesmaids and I had such a wonderful time exploring the Music City. Hopefully next time we can stay a little longer and it won’t rain!
