Beach Baby: What I Packed

Happy Friday friends! A couple weeks ago my family and I headed down to the beautiful beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. I shared the trip via Instagram stories and reels and got a lot of great feedback! I also got a lot of questions about what I packed for Sophia (my four month old). I figured I’d go ahead and write a blog post to help anyone else traveling to the beach with little ones. Let’s dive right in!

A Few Absolute Items to Pack

These might be obvious but a few items you cannot forget are: diapers, wipes, pajamas, swimsuit, swim diapers (if baby is going in the water), cover up, plenty of clothes, bottles, pacifiers, diaper bag and head cover (bonnet, cap). Whether you are going on a short weekend beach trip or a long getaway, these are obviously very important items to pack for baby.

For the Beach

For the actual beach, make sure you pack an umbrella or pop up tent to stay under with baby. Since infant under the age of 6 months cannot use sunscreen, it is very important you keep baby covered from the strong sun. Be careful spending all your time under and umbrella or tent without extra coverage- the sun reflects off the sand and can cause sunburns. I wore Sophia in a breathable carrier while we were on the beach but it wasn’t very hot yet (like it is now) and we weren’t out on the beach very long. They sell some water proof carriers that are perfect for the beach. I would highly recommend getting one of those.

Another item I highly recommend is getting a beach wagon. We have one that we bought a couple years ago from Walmart and it has been an amazing tool to get the kids and all their stuff to the beach. You can also attach a portable fan and let baby sleep in it while you are at the beach.
