Happy Tuesday friends! It’s probably pretty obvious by now that I have a slight obsession with the Georgia Aquarium. Since I grew up on the ocean, the aquarium is like my home away from home. I absolutely love how from the minute you walk in you are immediately transported to a magical underwater adventure!
The first time I took Robinson was back when he was still in my tummy! You can read all about it HERE! I’ve been wanting to take him back but waited until he was a little older so he could take in everything. My sister and I took him a few weeks ago and it was a huge success! He was captivated by all the sea creatures and the pretty colors. He especially loved the giant tank with the whale sharks! It was so precious to see my tiny little baby looking up at these giant animals- truly priceless! I believe our aquarium visit was successful because we were prepared and because the aquarium caters to families. Here are a few tips for having a perfect day at the aquarium with baby-
Five Tips on Visiting the Georgia Aquarium with Baby
Tip 1: Pack Right
This might be an obvious one but pack plenty of clothes for baby (and maybe for you too!), diapers, wipes etc. There are some parts of the aquarium that are a little cooler than others so make sure to pack a sweater for baby. If you do end up needing to change, there is a full baby changing area located in the ladies restroom in Café Aquaria. Also, if you forget snacks not to worry, the aquarium has a wide selection of food for the whole family!
Tip 2: Feeding Room
This was a huge perk for me- the Aquarium has a private nursing/pumping room available for mothers on their second-floor rotunda in front of Oceans Ballroom (above Cafe Aquaria). I don’t know about you but I have found it very disappointing how barely any public places provide nursing rooms for Moms. Such a relief that the aquarium does!
Tip 3: Stroller Friendly
Georgia Aquarium recommends smaller strollers to navigate crowded areas more easily. Strollers are not permitted in the 4D Theater or the Dolphin theater. Complimentary stroller parking is available at the Information Desk/Coat Check, and additional stroller corrals are available outside the galleries.
To bring your stroller with you to the second floor use the ramp located just outside Cafe Aquaria, across from the Ocean Voyager gallery. There are also three elevators at Georgia Aquarium located at:
- Cafe Aquaria, to the right as you walk into the cafe. This elevator takes you to the second floor rotunda area for additional cafe seating and the entrance of the Cold Water Quest gallery.
- AT&T Dolphin Tales gallery, to the right of the escalators. This elevator takes you upstairs to view the dolphins and attend the presentation.
- Behind the stairs to the right of the Tropical Diver gallery. This elevator takes you to the second floor to access the touch pool, Aquanaut Adventure, 4-D Funbelievable Theater and the VR simulator.
Tip 4: Nap Time
If you need a quiet area for baby I recommend going upstairs above Cafe Aquaria. This area tends to be a lot quieter than other parts of the aquarium. I put Robinson in his stroller and took him up there to drive him around until he fell asleep.
Tip 5: Have fun!
The aquarium is designed for families to learn and enjoy. There are step stools in the restrooms near Cafe Aquaria and the Tropical Diver Gallery to help young children reach the sinks to wash their hands.
Georgia Aquarium’s Aquanaut Adventure: A Discovery Zone was designed with all children in mind. It contains interactive stations at different height levels to accommodate a wide range of ages.
Events For Little Ones
Toddler Time: Holiday Edition, December 3rd
Take a ‘dip’ into Georgia Aquarium with your toddler, without the time or cost commitment of our General Admission ticket during our monthly Toddler Time events. Bring your little one on a fun and educational adventure in Georgia Aquarium’s Oceans Ballroom with views of beluga whales or whale sharks and manta rays.
During each 1.5 hour experience, children will meet and learn about an approachable animal during a special introduction to marine life, enjoy a costumed character appearance, story time, craft activities and a small snack.
