Happy Hump Day! We have successfully made it through the hardest part of the week. Now just two more days until the weekend. I wanted to start today by sharing a quote I came across yesterday:
“All growth depends upon activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work.”
-Calvin Coolidge
I felt this quote was appropriate for my blog because making our lives better requires work. Every single successful person I’ve met had to work very hard to get there. They had to make sacrifices and push themselves constantly to keep going. Now this doesn’t just apply to money or social success, it applied to our intelligence as well. This week in my biochemistry class we discussed that when we challenge ourselves intellectually we immediately become smarter. There is a lot of biology and chemistry that plays into this-which I will spare you of hearing. So just remember, when you try something new and you challenge yourself to be a better person, you are actually becoming smarter.
Speaking of trying something new, I visited my #106 restaurant this week. Although I love burgers and Southern food, I decided to try and find something more nutritious. One of my friends suggested we try one of her favorite restaurants in Buckhead called Souper Jenny. Souper Jenny is a cozy little restaurant that makes their meals fresh everyday. When I first walked in I thought it was simply adorable and felt right at home. They have all their options out on display (cafeteria style) so you can see exactly what you are getting. They serve all their meals on beautiful ceramic bowls that you would see at an art festival. I went with their lunch special which came with a soup, salad, piece of fruit, drink, and small dessert for only $13. I find that most “healthy” restaurants are rather expensive but Souper Jenny was very affordable. The staff was friendly and informed me on all the options they had left. Since everything they make is made that day, they make a certain quantity of everything. If you go towards the end of the afternoon you might not find too many options.
I went with their artichoke and basil tomato soup with a side of caprese salad. They were out of cookies so they gave me a small piece of Ghirardelli chocolate. Everything was delicious and tasted incredibly fresh. If you want a yummy lunch that will not make you feel sluggish afterwards, I strongly recommend trying out Souper Jenny.
You can checkout their menu (which changes every day) on their website:
Executive Chef and founder Jennifer Levison also recently opened another little healthy gem, Juicy Jenny. Juicy Jenny is a few stores down from Souper Jenny and offers all natural juices and smoothies. Perfect little snack for anyone! 🙂
Hope you enjoyed today’s blog! Stay tuned for more blogs on my upcoming vacation to Charleston, SC.
