Happy Friday pretty friends! Today I’m so excited to share my Charleston Sister Sister Trip 2017 with you! I have now been to Charleston four times and have had the pleasure of trying some of their best restaurants- so I hope my list helps you on your next trip {see bottom of blog post for complete list}.
For the past few years my sister Julie and I have started an annual tradition called “Sister Sister Trips”- we are clearly very creative when it comes to coming up with clever names for our trips, right? Since we haven’t lived in the same city since high school, these trips are a great time for us to reconnect. We pick a new city each year that we can both easily get to. This year we decided to go to the beautiful city of Charleston!
Day One
We arrived to our Airbnb Saturday morning and hit the road running. We walked to King Street and got a small, healthy snack at Black Bean Co. We went with their vegan Beach Burrito, which consisted of guacamole, black bean pineapple salsa, jasmine rice, mixed greens and homemade lime cumin vinaigrette.
After recharging with our power food, we continued exploring Charleston. Something I love about Charleston is if you get a central place to stay, you can park your car and walk almost anywhere! On King Street you can find amazing restaurants (like this little vegan one we stumbled upon), boutiques and historical buildings.
Next up on our itinerary was our first Charleston dinner at R Kitchen. While doing research on restaurants to try I came across this little gem. The article was about it being the most sought after reservation in Charleston because of its unique dining experience. I immediately contacted them (you have to text the restaurant) and tried my luck with two reservations. It took them a few days to respond but they did and were super nice about getting us in! So thankful they did because it was incredible.
When you arrive to R Kitchen {pictured above} they welcome you to their small kitchen style restaurant. With only 19 places to sit, it makes for a very intimate dinner. By the time you sit down, the chefs are already busy making the first course. Once all the food was plated, the chefs would explain what the dish was and what inspired it.
Each dish was absolutely phenomenal. I can honestly tell you that it was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. We enjoyed how involved the chefs were with everyone and of course, how delectable each dish was. My favorite was dessert- a Granny Smith Apple goat cheese custard with shaved cilantro cream cheese on top. If you follow me on snapchat you saw that I literally licked the plate clean! No shame here! By the way, did I mention it was 5-course for only $30? This also is why the reservation is so difficult to get!
Day Two
After getting a goodnights rest, Julie and I kicked off our day with some breakfast at Edmund’s Oast. Located 10 minutes outside of downtown (I recommend driving), this restaurant was highly recommended by many. We had an amazing blueberry sweet roll, locally sourced coffee and their Cheddarwurst Croissant. The croissant came with scrambled eggs, a sausage patty and pickled peppers topped with maple syrup. Yum!
Ready to walk off our breakfast, Julie and I headed back to downtown to walk around rainbow row. If you are visiting Charleston you have to stop by this vibrant area! The houses are so bright and beautiful! After walking around we headed to our candle making class at Candlefish.
If you’ve kept up with my blog you know that I love Candlefish! So it was only natural that my sister and I would sign up for one of their candle making classes. This was a first for both of us and we had a blast! Our Chancellor, Lindsey, was a fabulous instructor. We got to pick out our scent (I went with a floral #88) and then learned how to perfectly make a candle. I highly recommend adding this workshop to your Charleston itinerary. For only $45, you get the experience and you get to take home TWO 9 oz candles! Such a great deal!
After our fun candle making class we headed to dinner at another Charleston staple, Indaco. Lucky for us Charleston is currently doing Restaurant Week and Indaco was participating. We were able to each do a 3-course dinner for only $35! Our favorite dish of the night was the appetizer Ricotta Toast which came with hazelnuts, truffle honey and roasted wild mushrooms. Delicious!! This restaurant was very romantic and a perfect spot for any couple visiting Charleston!
Day 3
Even though we were sad to end our trip, we definitely took advantage of our last day in Charleston and got a few more restaurants in. I woke up really early and went to The Daily to grab coffee for Julie and a healthy green juice for me. The Daily was also highly recommended by locals because of how fresh their ingredients are. I got the Green Lemonade which was kale, spinach, cucumber, apples, lemons and ginger. It was such a great way to get my greens in because it truly tasted like a lemonade! I also grabbed us some avocado toast which was delicious!
After eating our breakfast in bed, Julie and I did a few more hours of sight seeing before heading to our final lunch at Butcher & the Bee. Julie and I shared an order of hummus and split one of their famous cheeseburgers. Such a great meal!
As you can see all we did was eat, walk and eat some more through Charleston. I hope you like these places I have recommended as much as we did. I also hope this post inspires you to take a sibling trip! I promise you that its something you will never regret investing in. And remember to keep beautiful Charleston on your travel list! Between its charming homes, to its rich culinary scene, Charleston has something for everyone. Happy traveling my friends!
