When you think of Southern ways, what comes to mind? For me it’s warm hospitality, delicious cuisine, sweet tea, sitting by a lake and football. This past weekend I found all those at the Reynolds Plantation, Lake Oconee. Located less than two hours away from Atlanta, Reynolds Lake Oconee is the ultimate setting for an active life well-lived. A vibrant playground brimming with activity, where your inner child can come out and play, and the whole family can embrace everything that nature has to offer. When its warm enough you can spend the day on the water or in it, perfect your golf swing, or enjoy true southern culinary.
From the moment you drive into the property you are welcomed by beautiful landscapes and southern homes. There are several options for lodging such as lake houses, condos, and at The Ritz Carlton. For our visit we stayed at a comfortable lake condo that quickly became our home away from home. The condo came equipped with a full kitchen, washer and dryer, coffeemaker, and plenty of space. And the best part is that the condo had a beautiful view of the lake, making it extremely serene and relaxing. This would be a great option to share with another family during a lake weekend!
When it comes to activities, Reynolds Lake Oconee offers everything from kayaking, golfing to bike riding trails for the whole family. With six spectacular designs by five legendary architects, each of their courses provides club members, residents and guests a unique and memorable experience. Being a huge fan of golfing, Andrew got to experience the 27 hole National Golf course. Although it was a little chilly, the golf course did not disappoint. How often can someone golf in January and enjoy it? Andrew thought it was one of the best courses he has ever been on because of the beautiful lake views and serene playing experience.
Last and certainly not least, Lake Oconee is also a culinary escape. The property has a wide range of options for residents, club members and guests at The Plantation Grille, Great Waters, The Landing, Kathy’s Café at The Lake Club, and The Creek Club. Along with spectacular cuisine, diners enjoy a selection of wines that helped Reynolds on Lake Oconee receive the “Award of Excellence” from WINE Spectator Magazine for four consecutive years. The Ritz Carlton itself offers 7 different dining options from a Coffee Shop to a BBQ butler! There is literally something for everyone!
Andrew and I had the pleasure of trying the properties newest restaurant, The National Tavern. I can honestly tell you that it was one of the best Georgia restaurants I have ever eaten at. It is rare to find a restaurant where absolutely everything you try is phenomenal. Because of that I will be doing a FULL restaurant review tomorrow on the blog. Make sure you come by to see pictures of our amazing experience.
Although this was our first time visiting Reynolds Lake Oconee, it certainly will not be our last. We look forward to coming back this summer with our families to enjoy the warm weather amenities the lake life has to offer. Whether you’re seeking a weekend getaway, a second home, or an exceptional primary residence, Reynolds Lake Oconee invites you to go play with them!

Yes, the national tavern is a “MUST” IF YOU ARE VISITING lAKE OCONEE! THE WHOLE LAKE OCONEE/REYNOLDS PLANTATION AREA IS BEAUTIFUL, WITH YUMMY RESTAURANTS, LOTS OF GOLF AND SWIMMING FUN. WE MOVED TO THE LAKE AREA THREE YEARS AGO AND FELL IN LOVE WITH EVERYTHING – THE PEACEFULNESS OF GETTING AWAY FROM THE CITY!
