Restaurant Review: Colletta Italian Food and Wine

This week my husband and I had the pleasure of trying out a delicious restaurant in Avalon called Colletta Italian Food and Wine. This was our first time dining there and it definitely won’t be our last. Lucky for us, its Georgia Restaurant Week and Colletta was participating! I’m excited to tell you about everything we ordered.

Since Colletta was doing a Restaurant Week menu, we were able to order an appetizer, entree AND dessert for only $25. We each ordered something different so we could try a variety of dishes Colletta had to offer. To start out we ordered the Clams and the Meatballs. The clams were served with oregano, clabrian chiles, garlic, white wine, parsley, and a toasted semolina baguette. The meatballs, which were beef + pork, were served with a tomato sauce and placed on a creamy bed of polenta. The clams were incredibly fresh while the meatballs were packed with flavor. Both great appetizers!

For our main courses we listened to our lovely waitresses suggestions and Bianca Pizza and the Black Pepper Tagliatelle. The Bianca pizza came with ricotta, san simon di costa, braised mushrooms, rosemary oil, and pecorino romano. We learned that the reason why the mushrooms were so flavorful was because they were braised in a vinaigrette for 4 hours before serving. Delicious! The pizza was great BUT our second dish, the Black Pepper Tagliatelle was out of this world. This unique pasta came with carbonara, pork tesa, egg yolk, chives, and pecorino romano. Wait… did I say egg yolk?! I sure did! And it was divine, my friends. The egg yolk came in the middle of the pasta which we popped and stirred into it. It truly was unlike any other pasta we’ve ever had and we loved it!

Last but not least was our delectable desserts- an Almond Budino which came with salted caramel and chocolate shortbread along with a broken cannoli which came with ricotta, chocolate, and cinnamon. If you have a sweet tooth- these desserts will taste like heaven to you! They were a perfect way to end an amazing meal.

Along with its beautiful atmosphere, superb service and even better food- Colletta needs to be on your radar. Whether its for a ladies lunch or a romantic dinner date, Colletta will not disappoint.
