You asked for the recipe so here it is! In case you missed it, I did a full recipe reel on Instagram last week: watch it HERE. As you can see there is quite a few steps to make these yummy wellness shots. But in my opinion, it’s worth it because (1) they are actually delicious and (2) it’s wayyyyy more affordable to make than to buy individual shots.
While wellness shots may provide a small boost of nutrients due to their concentrated ingredients, most experts agree that they are not a significant contributor to overall health & shouldn’t be considered a replacement for a balanced diet. But my logic is if it doesn’t hurt us & COULD potentially help us, why not? A few neat facts about the ingredients I chose-
Ginger: Contains compounds called gingerols, which are known for their digestive & anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric: Curcumin, the main active compound in turmeric, has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that have been shown to help manage arthritis, metabolic syndrome, anxiety, and muscle soreness. To enhance its absorption, curcumin should be consumed alongside black pepper. I do not like black pepper so I just left this ingredient out.
Lemon: contain a high amount of vitamin C & plant compounds that give them a number of health benefits.
Apple cider vinegar: Studies suggest that apple cider vinegar may reduce fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, & total cholesterol levels.
And like I said at the end of my reel, before you head to the store & buy all these ingredients, please consult your healthcare provider about possible side effects & medication interactions to ensure they are safe for YOU. Ginger & turmeric have blood-thinning properties that may interact with anticoagulants & antiplatelet medications.
Ingredients
- 1 ginger, peeled
- 1 cup pineapple, crushed
- 1/2 TBSP turmeric
- 1/2 lemon, peeled
- 1 TBSP agave
- 1 TBSP apple cider vinegar
- Shot glasses with lids
- Almond Cow
Instructions
- Peel and chop the ginger and lemon and add it to the filter basket.
- Add the pineapple, agave and turmeric to filter basket. NOTE: You can also add a pinch of black pepper here.
- Add water to the 500mL line of the collector cup. Place collector cup inside the Almond Cow base. Attach the filter basket to the top, and the top to the base. NOTE: You have to give it a few wiggles then turn to properly attach.
- Press the cow, and when the green light stops flashing, your wellness shots are ready! I then use a spoon to get all the liquid out and give the pulp to my chickens.
- Pour out the collector cup into the Almond Cow and add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and mix.
- Now just pour them into cute glass shot glasses and enjoy!
