Happy travel Tuesday my pretty friends! Today I want to tell you all about our fun Easter trip to Charleston, South Carolina. At the end of this post you can also see the list of restaurants, bars and coffee/bakeries I recommend trying. I have now been to Charleston three times and have had the pleasure of trying some of their best restaurants- so I hope my list helps you on your next trip.
Andrew and I decided pretty last minute that we wanted to celebrate Easter in Charleston this year. We found a cute little house on Airbnb and packed our bags. We arrived Friday and first had lunch at neighborhood gem, The Park Cafe. Located in North Charleston, their kitchen team sources fresh, quality ingredients from Charleston purveyors, so the food speaks for itself. I went with their Avocado Toast, Vegetable Farm Soup {it came with a poached egg inside} and Andrew went with their Egg Sandwich. Everything was delicious and didn’t leave us feeling heavy and gross.
After lunch we ventured closer to downtown and tried one of Charleston’s best bakeries, Sugar Bakeshop. On top of it being super adorable, they bake the most amazing cupcakes! I went with their vanilla cupcake with strawberry icing- one of the best cupcakes I have ever had!
Later that night we walked around downtown and grabbed local seafood at Charleston Crab House. We saw the sunset on their rooftop patio and listened to some live jazz music. Such a wonderful first day!
Saturday we woke up early and got our day started with another delectable bakery, Wildflour Pastry. I tried their donut muffins- little muffin like sugar donuts! It was amazing along with a cup of coffee. Strongly recommend giving them a try. After lunch we explored rainbow row and the battery. Such stunning southern homes all over the place!
For lunch we stumbled into a little BBQ spot on Bay Street called Poogan’s Smokehouse Restaurant. This was by far the best restaurant we tried all weekend. We started out with some drinks, Silk & Rye and an Old Fashioned, followed by an order of skillet cornbread. For main entrees we ordered the Pork Belly Sliders, Tennessee Hot Chicken Sandwich and an order of Skillet Mac and Cheese. Ya’ll… we died and went to BBQ heaven. Everything was phenomenal! We savored every single bite of this meal. Another place I strongly recommend trying!
Full from a late lunch, we opted out of eating dinner that evening. Instead we went and grabbed a few drinks at South End and High Cotton. Both were fun environments and had a great drink selection!
Finally, on Sunday we went to church downtown then ventured to Sullivan’s Island for brunch at The Obstinate Daughter. This restaurant came highly recommended by my Charleston blogger babes! From the minute we walked in I could immediately see why they love it so much- such a cute spot! We were welcomed by our very friendly waiter and quickly ordered a dozen of their local raw oysters. Yum! We then ordered their Old Danger Pizza and Eggs Benedict. The Old Danger consisted of – pancetta, mozzarella, white sauce, farm egg, scallion, black pepper and parmesan. Both entrees were great but the pizza won this round.
As you can see all we did was eat, drink and walk our way through Charleston. I hope you like these places I have recommended as much as we did. Also, if you’re like and like to also read up on the city, I recommend buying Wild Sam’s Field Notes. These little travel books give you a unique perspective and details of the city you are traveling to!
Between its charming homes, to its rich culinary scene, Charleston has something for everyone. Happy traveling my friends!
