Being the savvy bargain hunter that I am, I absolutely love a good happy hour. I keep a notebook full of all my favorite restaurants happy hour deals. While most places only include drinks in their happy hour, some do venture into food deals. Well I hit the jackpot my friends, a PIE happy hour. My sweet tooth nearly jumped out of my mouth with excitement! This thrilling little event is put together by The Pie Shop in Buckhead.
The Pie Shop is a small, charming little bake shop located off Roswell Road. Owner and creator of all the beautiful pies, Mims Bledsoe, started Pie Shop back in 2010. Since then Pie Shop has been featured in various magazines and Mims recently received the Buckhead Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Happy hour is featured the first Thursday of every month. You can pay for your tickets at the event ($25) or you can pay ahead through their website thepieshop.com for $20. Space is limited to 25 people and it does sell out quickly so my advice is to purchase your tickets well in advance. The event is also BYOB so bring your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with pie!
As my friend and I walked into The Pie Shop for the first time, we were immediately greeted by the gratifying aroma of fresh pies being baked. Mims, the owner, welcomed us to happy hour and kindly shared with us the menu for the night.
We started the night with a slice of spinach-tomato quiche. I was pleasantly surprised to be first trying a savory pie. For those of you who have never had quiche, its a savory, open-faced pastry crust with filling of custard with cheese, meat, and/or vegetables. It can be served hot or cold. Ours was served hot since it was fresh out of the oven!
Our second sample was chicken pot pie. This was my favorite pie of the night. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the vegetables were fresh and crisp.
The two sweet pies I sampled were the Ganache and Pecan Bourbon. The Ganache was a thick, rich chocolate pie topped with a fluffy cream. This was my friends favorite pie! If you are a chocolate lover you must try this pie.
The Pecan Bourbon tasted like Thanksgiving. The flavors of warm, sweet pecans mixed with bourbon take over your taste buds. The pecans were crispy while the pie filling was soft and creamy. Exactly what a great pie should taste like!
Although we only tried 4 pies, keep in mind this is an all you can eat event. Mims is very gracious with her servings and even let us take a slice of pie to go! This is definitely an event you want to try at least once my friends. The Pie Shop’s menu changes every 2 months to complement the seasons. If anyone wants to join me, I plan on making another visit this summer.
