Happy Monday my friends! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today I want to share a delicious restaurant I tried called- Alma Cocina. Alma Cocina brings a new approach to contemporary Latin and Mexican cuisine and a whole lot of spice to the heart of downtown Atlanta. Their traditional regional flavors are bright, fresh and vibrant in mouthwatering authentic Mexican dishes. They also feature the most unique tequila selections and a host of innovative Latin-influenced cocktails beyond, but including, a superior margarita.
We started our dinner with a must have appetizer called the Guacamole and Salsa Sampler, which came with 3 guacamoles and 3 salsas. Wait what?! Yes my friends- a whole lot of amazing flavors in 1 appetizer. Some of the flavors included guacamole with picked squash, green apples and lime. My personal favorite was the one with green apples cut-up into it!
After devouring the delicious appetizer, we received our beautiful entrees. I went with their newest salad called Grilled Little Gem Salad, which came with smoked grapes, pickled tomatoes, charred avocado, corn-crusted goat cheese- covered in a goat cheese-serrano vinaigrette. I also added grilled chicken to get my protein intake! It was packed with flavor and perfectly filling!
We also tried a few sides like the masa fries, sweet plantains in a red chile nectar and my favorite- Elotes. If you haven’t heard of Elotes, don’t worry neither had I. BUT trust me, you will never forget after trying it. Elotes is a charred corn-on-the-cob with garlic aioli, ancho chile powder, queso cotija, and epazote (a Mexican spice). I had no idea you could make corn taste like heaven! A definite must try at Alma, my friends.
Last and definitely not least, we finished out with dessert. As pictured above, we went with the gelato sampler. This was perfect because we were able to try 3 different Mexican gelato’s, which included a Guacamole flavor! My favorite was the Mexican cinnamon vanilla flavor. It was incredibly smooth to eat and had a kick of soft cinnamon.
Whether you are looking for a fun atmosphere to have drinks or a delicious place to enjoy an authentic Latin meal, Alma Cocina is for you. Alma also features a gluten free menu at lunch and dinner for anyone with gluten restrictions. Alma Cocina serve dinner every night starting at 5 pm and fresh Mexican lunch menu is available Monday-Friday from 11am to 3pm. Click Here to Make a Reservation or call 404.968.9662.
