NON-PROFIT CULINARY TOUR BRINGS FIERY COMPETITION TO THE STAVE ROOM – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30
WHAT: Cochon555 is proud to announce the complete 2016 culinary lineup for Heritage BBQ, the annual event promoting heritage breed pigs and diverse food cultures. Cochon555 is returning to the city where it all started – Atlanta – for the first time since 2013. Linking up with one of the country’s liveliest restaurant scenes, Heritage BBQ is a culinary competition featuring five chefs cooking five whole, heritage breed pigs with global flavors and timeless cooking techniques. Each chef will be given a 180 to 200-pound heritage breed pig to create six dishes for a crowd of pork-loving enthusiasts. Chefs must then present a “Judges’ Plate” of 6 dishes scored on utilization, global influences, cooking techniques and overall flavor. The winning team will be crowned the “BBQ King” of Atlanta and take home over $3,000 in prizes including a Traeger Grill and a new line of cast iron cookware from Williams-Sonoma. Beyond the 30 chef-competitor dishes, the festival’s all-inclusive ticket allows guests to sample “BBQ Traditions” of all styles as notable chefs prepare dishes from their favorite barbecue cultures in the spirit of collective feasting.
WHO: The 2016 Cochon555 Heritage BBQ participants
WHEN: Sunday, October 30 (3 p.m. for VIP; 4 p.m. for General Admission)
WHERE: The Stave Room | 199 Armour Dr. NE, Atlanta, GA 30324
WHY: Heritage BBQ was started in 2012 as an effort to bridge the gap between family farms and all categories of BBQ restaurants. Created by Cochon555 Founder Brady Lowe, the event invites existing restaurants into the local and sustainable food conversation taking place nationwide, while simultaneously breaking ground on a new hyper-local, globally-themed, farm-friendly strain of BBQ. The Cochon555 US Tour executes a yearly host of authentic, hyper-local food events focused on raising awareness for heritage breed pigs through the world’s first nose-to-tail pig cooking competition. This epic pork feast visits 20 major cities in North America annually and stages over 60 events. Cochon555 cultivates a long-term impact for heritage species, raised by family farms in top culinary markets in North America. Both educational and inspirational messages are circulated among 16,000 guests; 2,200+ chefs; 150+ family farms; and 16 culinary schools. Since 2009, 50,000+ consumers have experienced heritage pork for the first time, more than $500,000 has been donated to charities, and over $750,000 has been paid directly to our farmers.
